A flexible loop filter design for spacecraft phase-locked receivers is proposed. The loop filter is implemented as digital hardware with coefficients that are set by registers. Either a perfect or an imperfect integrating loop filter can be effected.

The threshold performance of deep-space telemetry is characterized for four turbo codes. The mathematical models given here are based on simulations that account for imperfect carrier synchronization. These models are valid for coherent detection of

Offset quadri-phase shift keying will be the telemetry modulation scheme for many future deep space missions, in accord with new CCSDS standards. The Block-V Receiver of the Deep Space Network has a carrier synchronization loop for offset QPSK, but t

Implementation of an 80 MHz, 16-bit, multi-stage digital filter to decimate by 1600, providing a 50 kHz output with bandpass ripple of less than +/-0.1 dB is described. It uses two decimation by five units and six decimations by two executed by a sin

A new telemetry playback scheme promises to maximize telemetry return for deep space missions. For a given effective isotropic radiated power from the spacecraft, the received signal-to-noise spectral density ratio and hence the supportable bit rate
