An excimer UV laser system and a spark system have been used for the ablation of metals and alloys as a means of sampling for axially viewed ICP-AES. Ablation efficiency and sensitivity expressed as S/B are presented for different types of materials.

Several general expressions for the atomic fluorescence radiance excited by a laser source are presented for both two-level and three-level systems. The laser has been approximated to a spectral continuum since its bandwidth is assumed to be much lar

The combination of sample injection into an air carrier stream (i.e., air segmentation) with a low sample consumption system has been evaluated for the analysis of microsamples through ICP-AES. A PFA micronebulizer has been coupled to: (i), a double

In connection with our previous biochemical comparative study on healthy and diseased Picea trees from polluted areas we have now measured the nutrient contents in the same needle samples. 540 small samples were processed in a very short time (25 min

Different high-frequency generators have been studied in the 5 to 56 MHz range in order to observe the influence of frequency on spectral characteristics of inductively coupled plasmas used in emission spectroscopy. Higher frequencies tended to yield

A cw tunable dye laser (540–640 nm) was used to excite molecular fluorescence of five species in a flame. Real-time fluorescence spectra of SrOH, CaOH, CrO, MnO and C 2 were recorded. Different types of fluorescence behavior were observed and were
