The modulation bandwidth and noise limit of a photoconductive sampling gate are studied by reducing the parasitic capacitance and leakage current of the sampling circuit using an integrated junction field-effect transistor (JFET) source follower. The

The ability to machine very small features in materials has a number of technological applications. We have ablated holes, by laser ablation, into a metal film. Using 200 fs, 800 nm pulses from a Ti:sapphire laser, focused to a spot size of 3000 nm,

A novel stretcher–compressor design for chirped-pulse amplification systems is presented. The stretcher, which incorporates high-groove-density gratings and an intragrating prism pair, is shown to be highly cubic-phase tunable. Using a hybrid stret

40-fs pulses are stretched to 372 ps by an all-reflective-optics stretcher with 1200-line/mm holographic gratings and are then amplified to an energy of 0.7 mJ in a regenerative amplifier. After compression, 0.35-mJ, 55-fs transform-limited pulses ar

We have designed and built a chirped-pulse parametric-amplifier system that utilizes a 10 Hz, 300 ps, Nd:YAG pump laser system; a 1.575 microm fiber oscillator and amplifier as the signal source; and rubidium titanyl phosphate and potassium titanyl a

Chirped-pulse amplification is used to generate 0.35 mJ, 55 fs pulses in Ti:Al2O3. We discuss the modeling done to produce this result and the limitations of the methods used. The use of a kHz post-amplifier is also discussed.

A 100-GW optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifier system is used to study nonlinear effects in the 1.54 mum regime. When focusing this beam in air, strong third-harmonic generation (THG) is observed, and both the spectra and efficiency are measured
