The rates of the diazo coupling reaction of 4-toluenediazonium salts with N, N-dimethylaniline in tetramethylene sulfone, acetonitrile, water, and nitromethane at 30°C are the same within a factor of 5. No significant influence of ‘gegenions’ (H

Relative cross sections for the ionization of H2, HD, and D2 have been measured using a thermal‐energy beam of 2 3S1 and 2 1S0 helium atoms. The cross sections for the production of H2+, HD+, and D2+ increase in this order. The ions are observed to

An automated method is described for determination of glucose in serum or plasma by use of the hexokinase reaction. The method has good precision and the results correlate well with those from a manual method in which the same reaction is used.

Nitration of the quinolinium ion in 80·05% sulphuric acid at 25 °C gave 3-(0·0013%), 5-(50·1%), 6-(1·61%), 7-(0·014%), and 8-nitroquinoline (42·3%). The corresponding partial rate factors were calculated to be 4·57 × 10–12, 1·74 × 10–7

The rates and products of nitration of the title compounds have been measured. The quinoline derivatives react as their conjugate acids, but with 4-hydroxycinnoline the free base may be involved to some extent. Surprisingly large proportions of 1-met
