During retinal development, waves of cholinergic neural activity play a role in retinal circuit development. Here, the authors show that this activity also contributes to layer-specific angiogenesis and formation of the blood-retinal barrier.

We have used scanning tunneling microscopy to chart the position of steps on Si(111) surfaces over contiguous regions spanning several thousand angstroms. From these data we have estimated the surface height-height correlation functions. The behavior

Scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and high resolution low‐energy electron diffraction studies of slowly cooled Si(111) surfaces misoriented by 1.3° towards the [112] direction show the existence of a preferred displacement of the (7×7) reconstr

Insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins are important intracellular molecules that mediate insulin receptor tyrosine kinase signaling. A decreased content of IRS proteins has been found in insulin-resistant states in animals, humans, and cultured c

Step motion on surfaces can now be measured quantitatively. We present a formalism for analyzing equilibrium step fluctuations and apply it to real-time reflection electron microscope observations of step motion on Si(111). The time correlation funct

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and high resolution low-energy electron diffraction measurements on vicinal (stepped) Si(111) surfaces reveal mixtures of single- and triple-layer-height steps, with the density of triples increasing with total ste
