We report the first interferometric waveguide intensity modulator with optical gain. A monolithically integrated compressively strained InGaAs quantum well amplifier provides a net 4.2 dB fiber‐to‐fiber gain at 120 mA forward bias. Reversed‐bia

Summary form only given. In this paper we report the first room temperature measurements of spectral hole-burning depths and widths of an Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). The alumino-germano-silicate EDFA was pumped at 1480 nm and had a small signal

The transmission of many Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels over transoceanic distances can be limited by the nonlinear interactions between channels. In this work the nonlinear interactions were suppressed by tailoring the chromatic disp

The large gain bandwidth of erbium doped fiber amplifiers has stimulated interest in WDM systems with many channels. For transoceanic and other such long-haul systems, the number of channels is limited by the accumulated gain bandwidth, w hich tends
