Switching of magnetic materials often occurs through discrete random avalanches. Singh et al. observe sharply reduced avalanches in the topologically protected skyrmion phase of a Fe/Gd heterostructure and obtain different critical behaviour in the s

Magnetic skyrmions are topological spin textures that exhibit classical or quantum quasiparticle behavior. A substantial amount of research has occurred in this field, both because of their unique electromagnetic properties and potential application

Understanding magnetic phase transitions from stripe to skyrmion textures provide fundamental scientific insights into the details of the intermediate topologies through which the system evolves. The solitonic nature of spin texture in both stripe an

We have used x-ray diffraction to study the structure of strained, epitaxial ${\text{BiFeO}}_{3}$ (BFO) films, which exhibit ordered arrays of stripelike ferroelectric domains, in which the polarization vector P alternates by either 109${}^{\ensurema

We report the observation of a Skyrmion lattice in the chiral multiferroic insulator Cu2OSeO3 using Cu L3-edge resonant soft x-ray diffraction. We observe the unexpected existence of two distinct Skyrmion sublattices that arise from inequivalent Cu s

X-ray absorption in ${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{4\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\delta}}/{\mathrm{La}}_{2}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{4}$ (SCO/LCO) superlattices shows a variable occupation with doping of a hole state different from holes doped for $x\ensuremat

X-ray absorption spectroscopy and resonant soft x-ray reflectivity show a nonuniform distribution of oxygen holes in a ${\mathrm{La}}_{2}{\mathrm{NiO}}_{4}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{La}}_{2}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{4}$ (LNO-LCO) superlattice, with excess holes co

Pressure-dependent, low-temperature inelastic light (Raman) scattering measurements of KCuF(3) show that applied pressure above P* ~ 7 kbar suppresses a previously observed structural phase transition temperature to zero temperature in KCuF(3), resul

We use resonant soft x-ray scattering (RSXS) to quantify the hole distribution in a superlattice of insulating La2CuO4 (LCO) and overdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 (LSCO). Despite its nonsuperconducting constituents, this structure is superconducting with T_{c}=
