Stress is a major health concern that not only compromises our quality of life, but also affects our physical health and well-being. Despite its importance, our ability to objectively detect and quantify it in a real-time, non-invasive manner is very

A detailed crystal-field splitting analysis is presented for the energy levels of Er3+(4f11) incorporated into Gd3Ga5O12 single crystals. Spectra are reported between 1600 and 350 nm and were observed at temperatures between 8 K and room temperature.

Spectroscopic and laser properties of three different Er3+−doped garnet systems are characterized by employing the Judd–Ofelt (JO) analysis. The three garnet hosts are Y3Al5O12 (YAG), Y3Sc2Ga3O12 (YSGG), and Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG). The JO model has been

A spectroscopic Judd–Ofelt investigation has been performed on Er3+ in the doubly doped phosphate glass:Er3+, Yb3+ in order to assess its potential as a laser system. The standard Judd–Ofelt model was applied to the room-temperature absorption in

The spectroscopic properties of crystals of CaF2:U4+ have been examined in light of recent interest expressed for this material as a saturable absorber in the passive Q switching of near infrared solid state lasers. The detailed crystal-field splitti

Polarized fluorescence spectra produced by site-selective excitation, and conventional polarized absorption spectra were obtained for Tm3+ and Er3+ ions individually incorporated into single crystals of strontium fluorapatite, Sr5(PO4)3F, also known

Polarized absorption and fluorescence spectra were analyzed to establish individual energy (Stark) levels of Nd3+ ions in host crystals of Sr5(PO4)3F (SFAP) and Ca5(PO4)3F (FAP). Site‐selective excitation and fluorescence facilitated differentiatio

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) sometimes develops following exposure to very stressful or traumatic events such as motor vehicle accidents, rape, and war. It is arguably the signature injury of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Previous s
