Abstract Plasmonics is a promising technology that can find many applications in nanophotonics and biosensing. Local excitation of surface plasmons with high directionality is required for many of these applications. We demonstrate that by controllin

The design of an etched lithium niobate waveguide-based modulator with a high-K dielectric cladding is proposed. Optimized design of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer modulator shows a low half-wave-voltage-length product of ~1.52 V.cm.

We report the steady-state and time-resolved z-scan measurements of the nonresonant third-order optical nonlinearities in ZnSe at telecom wavelengths. The measurements demonstrate that ZnSe could be used for ultrafast all-optical switching at 1310 an

Nonlinear Guided Waves and Their Applications.
We experimentally investigated beam propagation in an array of silica waveguides, under a regime of anomalous dispersion and for different input conditions. In all the cases, we succeeded in compressing most of the energy in a single waveguide.

Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Fibers and Waveguides: Applications and Fundamentals.
Since the initial observation of photoinduced refractive index changes in optical fibres1, the area of application of fibre Bragg gratings has broadened from simple wavelength dependent reflectors to noise filtering, wavelength selection and as senso

In recent years, there has been a great deal of research into development and application of photosensitive glasses. The changes in refractive index due to the UV exposure has been used for Bragg gratings [1], optical trimming [2] and direct writing

Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Fibers and Waveguides: Applications and Fundamentals.
Bragg gratings produced by direct UV exposure are finding wide-spread applications in fields ranging from telecommunications to optical sensing. In order to produce such fibre gratings a great deal of research has been directed to the use of electron
