Retinoids have many functions in the eye, including, perhaps, the visual guidance of ocular growth. Therefore, we identified where retinoid receptors, binding proteins, and biosynthetic enzymes are located in the ocular tissues of the chick as a step

We have identified a retinol dehydrogenase (cRDH) that catalyzes the oxidation of 9-cis- but not all-trans-retinol and proposed that this enzyme plays an important role in synthesis of the transcriptionally active retinoid, 9-cis-retinoic acid. There

All-trans- and 9-cis-retinoic acid are active retinoids for regulating expression of retinoid responsive genes, serving as ligands for two classes of ligand-dependent transcription factors, the retinoic acid receptors and retinoid X receptors. Little

We have purified a 57 kDa protein (designated Sak57, for spermatogenic cell/sperm-associated keratin) from sodium dodecyl sulfate-beta-mercaptoethanol (SDS-beta ME)-dissociated outer dense fibers isolated from rat sperm tails. Internal protein sequen

Summary— The ability of the retinoid compounds, all-trans and 13-cis, to inhibit the growth of bladder tumour cells was investigated in primary tissue culture. A significant decrease in tumour growth was evident in 9 human bladder cancer patients.

The main retinoids and some binding proteins and enzymes involved in retinol metabolism have been quantified in different types of rat liver cells. Hepatic perisinusoidal stellate cells contained 28-34 nmol of retinoids/10(6) cells, and parenchymal l

Ferritin with high and low iron content, 2000 and 790 iron atoms/molecule, was isolated from the spleens of copper-poisoned and control lambs, respectively. Differences in the iron content in vivo were reflected in the properties of the apoferritin p
