Paul Turán, one of the greatest Hungarian mathematicians, was born 100 years ago, on August 18, 1910. To celebrate this occasion the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, the János Bolyai Mathematical Society a

In this paper we consider multivariate approximation by weighted polynomials of the form w γ n ( x ) p n ( x ) w^{\gamma _n}(\mathbf {x})p_n(\mathbf {x}) , where p n p_n is a multivariate polynomial of degree at most n n , w w is a given nonnegative

A recent article of the first author presented a constructive proof for the Weierstrass approximation theorem for a wide class of weighted spaces of continuous functions defined on [ 0 , ∞ ) , using Chlodovsky's generalization of the Bernstein poly

In the present paper we will use the inverse polynomial image method in order to construct optimal nodes of interpolation on unions of disjoint intervals. We will show how this method works on those disjoint intervals which possess so-called T-polyno

We consider Lagrange interpolation on the set of finitely many intervals. This problem is closely related to the least deviating polynomial from zero on such sets. We will obtain lower and upper estimates for the corresponding Lebesgue constant. The

It is known that the Jackson-Favard inequality on polynomial approximation with respect to the weight exp ( − | x | ) fails to hold [6] . We show that this phenomenon holds for higher derivatives as well, while a modified version suggested by L

We consider a special case of the modification of Lagrange interpolation due to Bernstein. Compared to Lagrange interpolation, these operators interpolate at less points, but they converge for all continuous functions in case of the Chebyshev nodes.

Multivariate incomplete polynomials are considered on compact 0-symmetric starlike domains. Problems of density and quantitative approximation properties of such polynomials are investigated. It is shown that density holds for a certain class of star
