Bicoid (Bcd) functions as a morphogen during Drosophila development. Accordingly, bcd mRNA is maternally localized to the anterior pole of the embryo, and Bcd forms an anterior/posterior gradient, which functions in a concentration dependent fashion.

The Drosophila gene buttonhead (btd) is a gap-like head segmentation gene which encodes a triple zinc finger protein structurally and functionally related to the human transcription factor Spl. Here we report the pattern of btd expression during embr
