Reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO) is a major feature of endothelial dysfunction characteristic of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases but the short half-life of NO precludes its easy quantification in circulating blood for early diagnosi

Impaired nitric oxide (NO)-dependent endothelial function is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases. We hypothesized that erythrocyte levels of nitrosylated hemoglobin (HbNO-heme) may reflect vascular endothelial function in vivo.

Oxidative stress perturbs vascular homeostasis leading to endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases. Vascular reactive oxygen species (ROS) reduce nitric oxide (NO) bioactivity, a hallmark of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. We measur

Activation of the Escherichia coli SoxRS-regulon by nitric oxide (NO) and its physiological donors (S-nitrosothiol (GS-NO) and dinitrosyl iron complexes with glutathione (DNICglu) and cysteine (DNICcys) ligands) has been studied. To elucidate the mol

Destructive effect of superoxide anions O2- derived from KO(2) or xanthine-xanthine oxidase system on dinitrosyl-iron complexes bound with bovine albumin or methemoglobin (DNIC-BSA or DNIC-MetHb) was demonstrated. The sensitivity of DNIC-BSA synthesi

The present experiments were designed to analyze the influence of copper and iron ions on the process of decomposition of S-nitrosocysteine (cysNO), the most labile species among S-nitrosothiols (RSNO). CysNO fate in buffer solution was evaluated by

Examples of oscillatory processes in membranes, arising as a result of modification of the transport properties of the membrane by the flow of a penetrating substance, have long been known in the physical chemistry (1–3).

The ability of nitric oxide (NO) donor compounds to induce the SOS DNA repair response in Escherichia coli is reported. Dinitrosyl iron complexes with glutathione and cysteine (DNIC) are the most potent SOS-inducers. S -Nitrosothiols (RSNO) mediate a
