Turbulent particle transport is investigated with a quasilinear theory that is motivated by the boron impurity transport experiments in the Alcator C-Mod. Eigenvalue problems for sets of reduced fluid equations for multi-component plasmas are solved

ALCBEAM is a new three-dimensional neutral beam formation and propagation code. It was developed to support the beam-based diagnostics installed on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak. The purpose of the code is to provide reliable estimates of the local beam

Experimental studies of a high-β plasma in a long solenoid of the axisymmetric mirror trap AMBAL-M are being continued [1]. In order to increase the density of the initial warm plasma generated by a plasma source, additional gas puffing was used. Op

The central solenoid of AMBAL-M was filled with a turbulent plasma stream generated by a source located outside the entrance magnetic throat, the plasma {approx}0.4 m in diameter, with density {approx}1.5.10{sup 13} cm{sup -3}, electron temperature {

At present the axisymmetric ambipolar mirror trap AMBAL-M consists of a central solenoid which is attached to a plugging and MHD stabilizing end system and is filled from the other end by a plasma stream generated by a gas-discharge source. In the fi

Results are presented from experiments on the production and study of a hot dense plasma in the central solenoid of the AMBAL-M fully axisymmetric ambipolar magnetic confinement system. The hot plasma in the solenoid and end cell is produced by filli

ICRF is the primary auxiliary heating in C‐Mod where both H or 3He minority and mode conversion regimes are utilized. For transport analysis, the power deposition profile is critical and measuring the resulting fast ion distribution provides a dire

A novel integrated charge exchange recombination spectroscopy (CXRS)/beam emission spectroscopy (BES) system is proposed for C-Mod, in which both measurements are taken from a shared viewing geometry. The supplementary BES system serves to quantify l

The edge of a tokamak plasma can be characterized by regions of sharp gradients which indicate good plasma confinement by the magnetic fields. Unfortunately, these gradients and the regions of high confinement do not extend very far into the plasma.

The object of this review is to summarize the achievements of research on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak [Hutchinson et al., Phys. Plasmas 1, 1511 (1994) and Marmar, Fusion Sci. Technol. 51, 261 (2007)] and to place that research in the context of the que
