The close relation between cosmology and the theory of elementary particles is analyzed in the light of prospects of a unified field theory. The unity of their respective problems and solution methodologies is indicated. The difference between the co

Current hypotheses of gamma-ray burst origin are analysed. About 30 years after their discovery, it is still unclear where gamma-ray bursts are created (Solar system, Galaxy or Metagalaxy). Nor is the mechanism of their production known. This paper r

Physical phenomena in the Riemannian space of arbitrary dimensionality D = D ′ + 1 ( D′ = integer) are analyzed. It is noted, that with the dimensionality of physical space of the observable Metagalaxy D = 3 +1 very important physical features ar

A summary is given of research on transient (duration roughly-equal 10/sup -1/--10/sup 2/ sec) bursts of cosmic ..gamma.. rays monitored with spacecraft carrying special-purpose detectors. Very likely the burst sources are old (>10/sup 6/ yr) magneti

The topology of the extrema of the one-plaquette action and of the corresponding phase transitions is analyzed. An action which includes all homogeneous spaces of the group SU(2) is suggested. For some homogeneous spaces the results of Monte Carlo ca
