Abstract Iron is extremely insoluble in oxic seawater. The lack of a large aqueous reservoir means that sediments rich in authigenic iron are rare in the modern ocean. In the Middle Jurassic, however, condensed iron-rich sedimentary rocks are widely

The Mesozoic C-isotope record traces the history of the global carbon cycle. Major perturbations of the carbon cycle triggered by extraordinary volcanic activity are recorded in negative spikes coupled with positive C-isotope excursions. Prominent ex

The Triassic–Jurassic (T–J) boundary coincides with one of the five biggest mass extinctions in the Phanerozoic. This event has been extensively studied in the eastern and central Northern Calcareous Alps (NCA), where the global stratotype sectio

A high-resolution carbonate C-isotope stratigraphy for the Aptian is presented for the Cau core (Spain). The biostratigraphically calibrated C-isotope stratigraphy of the core is used to refine the previously defined C-isotope segments of the Aptian.
