Deformation dilatometry and semi-industrial extrusion were used to investigate the effect of different thermomechanical processing routes on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the low-alloy Mg alloys ZX10 (Mg–1Zn–0.3Ca) and ZX00 (Mg

Compared to Al alloys Mg alloys are generally slower to extrude and this makes them expensive to process. However, making alloys easier to extrude usually equates to reduced extrudate strength. The effects of extrusion parameter, billet heat treatmen

Commonly used visualisation methods for observing material flow during extrusion are either labor intensive, prone to loss of the tracer pattern or subject to different flow behaviour than occurs in practice. A novel visualisation method using a copp

This article deals with the development of fine-grained high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) magnesium alloys intended for use as biodegradable implant material. The alloys contain solely low amounts of Zn and Ca as alloying elements. We illustrate the dev

One objective of the project ”Austrian Light Weight Structures (ALWS)” is a basic study of production, modelling and validation of roll bonded composites of AA6xxx-automotive alloy and IF-steel. In this context, the influence of surface preparati

In this work the development of a system of micro-alloyed Mg-Ag-Ca-Mn-(Zr) alloys is described. It involves grain refinement throughout the production chain of direct chill casting and extrusion. After extrusion the alloys reveal a homogeneous micros
