Abstract Heat flow across oceanic transform faults (TFs) and fracture zones (FZs) has rarely been studied in detail, despite these features representing distinct thermal boundaries within the oceanic lithosphere. Here, we present heat flow measuremen

Bottom water renewal on the western flank of the mid-Atlantic Ridge is driven by rapid intrusion of cold, dense water enabled by gradual warming due to geothermal heat flux and diapycnal mixing, as revealed by six-year observational records.

Our knowledge of venting at intraplate seamounts is limited. Almost nothing is known about past hydrothermal activity at seamounts, because indicators are soon blanketed by sediment. This study provides evidence for temporary hydrothermal circulation

Abstract The permeability, connectivity, and reactivity of fluid reservoirs in oceanic crust are poorly constrained, yet these reservoirs are pathways for about a quarter of the Earth's heat loss, and seawater‐rock exchange within them impact ocean

Marine transform faults and associated fracture zones (MTFFZs) cover vast stretches of the ocean floor, where they play a key role in plate tectonics, accommodating the lateral movement of tectonic plates and allowing connections between ridges and t

Borehole temperature measurements can be easily conducted at the end of a drilling operation during trip out of the drill string (logging while tripping) without the need for additional operational time. After the final drilling depth was reached, an

Seafloor heat flow measurements are utilized to determine the geothermal regime of the Danube deep-sea fan in the western Black Sea and are presented in the larger context of regional gas hydrate occurrences. Heat flow data were collected across pale

A key aspect on the evolution of rifted terranes and the prospectivity of the overlying sedimentary basins is heat. Temperature determines the deformation regime of crustal and mantle rocks and, thus, the style of rifting and geometry of rift basins.

We present pore-fluid geochemistry and heat-flow data along the SWIM1 fault in the Horseshoe Abyssal Plain (northeastern Atlantic Ocean). The SWIM1 fault is part of the transcurrent plate boundary between Africa and Eurasia and cuts through as much a
