Abstract A better understanding of the relative roles of internal climate variability and external contributions, from both natural (solar, volcanic) and anthropogenic greenhouse gas forcing, is important to better project future hydrologic changes.

The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is coherently linked to climate variations over many parts of the globe. Despite recent achievements, the mechanism by which the AMO influences regional precipitation over South America is not well understo

p53 ubiquitination catalysed by MDM2 (murine double minute clone 2 oncoprotein) provides a biochemical assay to dissect stages in E3-ubiquitin-ligase-catalysed ubiquitination of a conformationally flexible protein. A mutant form of p53 (p53F270A) con

Interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF-1) and p53 control distinct sets of downstream genes; however, these two antioncogenic transcription factors converge to regulate p21 gene expression and to inhibit tumor formation. Here we investigate the mechanis

Expanding on the possible protein interaction partners in a biochemical pathway is one key molecular goal in the post-genomic era. Phage peptide display is a versatile in vitro tool for mapping novel protein-protein interfaces and the advantage of th

The oncoprotein murine double minute 2 (MDM2) binds to the tumour suppressor protein p53 and negatively regulates growth suppression by catalyzing the ubiquitination and degradation of p53. Antagonizing MDM2 is an ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM)

Although the N-terminal BOX-I domain of the tumor suppressor protein p53 contains the primary docking site for MDM2, previous studies demonstrated that RNA stabilizes the MDM2.p53 complex using a p53 mutant lacking the BOX-I motif. In vitro assays me

The Schizosaccharomyces pombe rad31 and hus5 genes are required for the DNA damage response, as mutants defective in these genes are sensitive to DNA damaging agents, such as UV and ionising radiation and to the DNA synthesis inhibitor hydroxyurea (H
