The spatial distribution of cerium valence in H2-reduced model planar Pd/Ce0.7Zr0.3O2 catalysts was determined by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) in a scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM). Spherical reduction zones were found ben

Alumina-supported Pt and Pt–Pd catalysts for NO oxidation were fabricated from two different precursors, acetylacetonate and nitrate. A variety of electron microscopy techniques, notably aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscop

It has been found that crystalline BaCO3 replaces crystalline BaAl2O4 in prototypical NOx traps upon exposure to liquid water. This phenomenon can be understood in terms of acid–base chemistry, where Ba2+ is leached from the aluminate, precipitatin

The oxidation and reduction of Pd/ceria and Pd/zirconia catalysts were investigated using pulse-reactor studies in which products were monitored following step changes in the reactant composition. The results demonstrate that both ceria and zirconia

Model Pd automotive three‐way catalysts were prepared with high‐surface‐area Zr‐rich ceria–zirconia powders as support materials, aged for 12 h at 1050°C under redox conditions simulating automotive exhaust gases, and characterized by a co

We have examined the effect of SO2 poisoning on a series of catalysts having Pd supported on ceria, alumina, and ceria–zirconia. For pre-exposure of 20 ppm SO2 at 673 K, we observed no changes in the light-off curves for CO oxidation on Pd/alumina.

Pure cerias, silica-doped ceria, ceria–zirconia solid solutions, and ceria–zirconia solid solutions with partial incorporation of praseodymium in the structure were prepared by Rhodia as high-surface-area powders and used as supports in model Pd

High-temperature-aging-induced deep encapsulation of metal particles by the support material in supported-metal catalysts, recently observed in ceria–zirconia-supported Pd catalysts, is also found in comparable Rh catalysts but not Pt catalysts. Ag

A remarkably high inferred initial rate of NO oxidation by O2 has been observed over Ba–Y, FAU zeolite at 25 °C in simple flow-reactor experiments. The rate of reaction at steady state was found to be lower, but still an order of magnitude greater
