An instrument for recording at a fixed station variations in three orthogonal components of the earth's magnetic field is described. The sensitive head, containing detectors of the saturated transformer type, can be operated out of doors at the end o

During the 1959 activities of the International Glaciological Expedition to Greenland, tellurometer measurements of the geodetic traverse over the ice sheet were found to contain systematic errors of the order of 1 part in 105 in distance measurement

A reconnaissance was made of one of two small ice caps near the Robeson Channel coast of northern Ellesmere Island. It is shown that, after a period of net wastage, this ice cap is now thickening slightly and extending its margins. The present regime

Autocorrelation functions are computed for profiles of D, H, and Z obtained by a three-component airborne magnetometer over Western Canada and over the Atlantic east of Bermuda. The accuracy of magnetic charts is computed as a function of the distanc

The positioning of a drifting ice floe was recorded every 10 minutes during a six-day period by means of a Decca navigational system and by direct wind observations on the floe. The observations showed that the ice floe took part in the tidal regime.

The results of 10 years' (1958-68) record of accumulation and ablation from the Ward Hunt ice rise and of 3 years' (1965-68) record from the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf are presented. The net mass balances on the ice rise for the 3 years 1962-65 are positive

An aeromagnetic survey of Iceland reveals broad anomalies of large amplitude over zones of recent volcanic activity. The source of the anomalies is ascribed to large masses of basalt that have been coherently remagnetized by intrusive heating. A simp

We suggest that the buoyancy forces on fresh water at the surface of the sea or immediately below the surface of the ice permit the use of this fresh water as an efficient means of transferring heat energy to the sea-ice, to melt it or to prevent its
