We report high-resolution spectroscopy of the $D^{1}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{u}$, ${D}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{u}$, and ${B}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}_{u}^{+}$ states in ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$, HD, and ${\

The conditions for effective pumping of non-resonant, highly excited vibrational levels are outlined. Hydrogen fluoride is chosen as a model system and examined under various aspects. Its absorption behaviour is taken as a diagnostic for collisional

Studies of photolytic production of S(1S) atoms by two‐photon dissociation of OCS at 193 nm are reported. The excited sulfur atoms are detected by observation of the collisionally‐induced XeS(2 1Σ+ →1 1Σ+) emission near the S(1S→1D) atomic

High brightness tunable coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation at 79 nm with a peak power of ∼200 mW has been generated in H 2 gas by sum frequency mixing of two quanta from a high spectral brightness ArF* (193 nm) source with one quantum fro

Stimulated emission at 15.88 and 15.95 μm has been obtained in 14NH3 utilizing two‐photon excitation. Total output energies on the order of 1 mJ have been observed in configurations which can be readily scaled to higher values. A discussion of the

Collisionless multiphoton absorption, resulting in multiple atomic ionization and exhibiting anomalously strong coupling, has been studied in the region spanning atomic number $Z=2$ (He) to $Z=92$ (U). The highest ion state identified is ${\mathrm{U}
