The State of Minas Gerais (MG) was the main diamond producer worldwide for almost 150 years. Today, Brazil contributes about 1.5% to the world diamond production, with 220,000 carats (ct) coming from MG; the two principal source areas are located in

Phlogopite mica is the major unaltered phase in minette and kersantite dikes in the Cross Fell and Taythes inliers in northwestern England. The compositional zonation trend in the micas from Mg-rich, Cr-bearing cores to Fe, Ti, Ba-rich, low Cr margin

The kimberlites of Riley County, Kansas contain xenoliths of upper mantle and crustal rocks. The kimberlite probably originated below the Low Velocity Zone (LVZ). Deep seated xenoliths include ilmenite-pyroxene symplectites, lherzolite, and eclogite.

Summary Four evaporite beds of Permian age occur in the Vale of Eden. A correlation between the youngest, or D bed, and the Magnesian Limestone of Hilton Beck is suggested, and the stratigraphical position for the junction of the Hilton Plant Beds an

Kaiser and Bond1 showed, by mass-spectrographic analysis, that many type I diamonds contain up to 0.2 per cent of nitrogen-14 as impurity, and quantitatively correlated this fact with certain features of the type I infra-red and ultra-violet spectra.

Lonsdale and Smith1 showed that type I natural diamonds give anomalous X-ray diffraction scattering along directions in reciprocal space. Hoerni and Wooster2 explained the intensities of this phenomenon in terms of impurity atoms in {100} planes, the

New electron and ion microprobe analyses of 36 olivines, 9 pyroxenes, and 10 garnets included in diamond were obtained. Olivine inclusions from kimberlites with Precambrian ages have higher mean Cr2O3 (850 versus 360 ppmw), Al2O3 (200 versus 90 ppmw)

The Pt-Rh thermocouple heating-measuring device has been adapted for use on a Unicam goniometer head so that x-ray diffraction photographs of oriented single crystals can be obtained. Sliding contacts permit the crystal to be oscillated or rotated du

SOME Ivory Coast diamonds lent to us by Dr. D. R. Grantham showed dark green patches over almost their entire surface. One specimen was fragmented and was found to consist of clear white diamond with a rather well-defined green skin about 0.02 mm thi
