Visual inspection of crude oil on water can determine the depth of thin layers of oil. However, catastrophic spills with millimeter (mm) thick oil will just be black, with no visual variation as the oil gets thicker. A day/night heat transfer model w

MARINE SCOUT is a compact, lightweight, Puma and other small UAS (SUAS) compatible, multi-spectral airborne sensor payload designed to sense and discriminate oil on water (e.g., maritime oil spills), and enable via post-processing the measurement of

Although advances have been made in oil spill remote detection, many electro-optic sensors do not provide real-time images, do not work well under degraded visual environments, nor provide a measure of extreme oil thickness in marine environments. A

Spectroscopic properties are presented for Yb3+ incorporated into single crystals of LiTaO3 grown by the top-seeded solution growth method. From an analysis of the absorption and fluorescence spectra, we are able to determine the Stark-level componen

We report a detailed crystal-field splitting analysis of the 13 lowest-energy multiplet manifolds, 2S+1 L J , of Nd 3+ (4f 3 ) in stoichiometric NdP 5 O 14 . The observed manifold splittings were determined by analyzing the absorption spectra between

A detailed crystal-field splitting analysis is given for the 26 lowest-energy multiplet manifolds, LJ2S+1, of Nd3+(4f3) in polycrystalline ceramic garnet Y3Al5O12 (YAG). The absorption spectra obtained between 8K and room temperature, and between 175

Polarized fluorescence spectra produced by site-selective excitation, and conventional polarized absorption spectra were obtained for Tm3+ and Er3+ ions individually incorporated into single crystals of strontium fluorapatite, Sr5(PO4)3F, also known

Polarized absorption and fluorescence spectra were analyzed to establish individual energy (Stark) levels of Nd3+ ions in host crystals of Sr5(PO4)3F (SFAP) and Ca5(PO4)3F (FAP). Site‐selective excitation and fluorescence facilitated differentiatio

The spectroscopic properties of Cr‐doped Ca5(PO4)3F known as Cr:FAP were examined using several different chemical and physical means. Results from analytical titration measurements indicate that chromium is tetravalent in the samples investigated.
