Two different methods for light-induced domain inversion in lithium niobate crystals are currently under investigation. Illumination with ultra-violet light with photon energies smaller than the band gap (wavelength λ = 334 nm) can reduce the coerci

Phase gratings are recorded holographically with nanosecond light pulses by the interference of two plane waves in colored liquid samples using the thermooptic effect. The samples consist of toluene and distilled water which are immiscible and have d

Stable suspensions of iron- or copper-doped lithium niobate nanocrystals in heptane are prepared by high-energy ball milling of iron- and copper-doped bulk crystals for 25 h. The distribution of particle sizes is determined by means of dynamic light

The authors review 26 patients with deep-seated cavernous angiomas which were removed by microsurgery. Ten of the angiomas were located in the insula and basal ganglia, 2 in the thalamus, 5 in the midbrain, 8 in the pons, and 1 in the brachium pontis

Thermal gratings are recorded in silver nanoparticle suspensions by nanosecond pulsed holography. Initial transients in diffraction efficiency demonstrate competing effects in grating formation. The gratingpsilas final decay is consistent with the su

Inhomogeneous illumination causes charge separation in a lithium niobate crystal which results in field gradients in proximity to the crystal surface. We recorded diverse patterns and utilized the field gradients to trap micro- and nanoparticles.

Utilizing the photorefractive effect, space-charge fields are recorded in near-stoichiometric, iron-doped lithium niobate crystals. Together with an external electric field these can lead to tailored inversion of ferroelectric domains.

Photorefractive gratings are recorded in lithium niobate crystals in the presence of externally applied electric fields close to the coercive field. After optical erasure a voltage pulse above the poling threshold is applied, and by these means a pho
