Space repellants were tested against mixed field mosquitoes by impregnating wide-mesh bed nets (8-11 threads/cm). The bed nets were taken to the field where human volunteers entered them and collected any mosquitoes that attempted to feed. Eight repe

A total of 293 carbanilates, benzamides, aliphatic and alicyclic amides, and imides were tested for effectiveness as space repellents against yellow-fever mosquitoes, Aedes aegypti (L.). Four carbanilates, 2 benzamides, and 1 acetamide gave more than

Investigations were made to develop a method that would provide a rapid and integrated evaluation of chemosterilants in screening programs with screw-worm flies and house flies. Fifty chemicals were tested against larvae of the house fly ( Musca dome

Combinations of carbon dioxide, ultraviolet light, and plexiglass were tested as attractants with an electrocutor grid to determine the most effective of these methods of killing stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), in the field. The combination o

Three alkanesulfonamides derived from nitrogen-containing heterocyclics showed promise as repellents vs. the yellowfever mosquito, Aedes aegypti (L.), when they were tested on clothing. In skin tests vs. A. aegypti with 20–25% ethanolic solutions,

Sterility was induced in house flies, Musca domestica L., by dipping puparia containing pupae of different ages in apholate, tepa, and metepa at concentrations of 2.5% and 5% for 30 to 300 seconds. At all dipping periods and with concentrations at 2.
