Short pulses used by traditional time-of-flight mass spectrometers limit their duty cycle, pose space-charge issues, and require high speed detectors and electronics. The motivation behind the invention of continuous time of flight mass spectrometers

The complex refractive index and the layer thickness of nanocrystalline diamond films was determined by ex situ variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry in the wavelength range of 191–1690 nm. During the layer depositions argon, methane and hydrog

Optical properties of nanocrystalline and ultrananocrystalline diamond films were studied by ex situ variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry. The films were prepared by Microwave Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition method. In the experiments

Oxide coverage of molybdenum plays an important role in several applications, for example in lighting industry. Surface conditioning procedures were simulated in an XPS instrument by in situ heat treatments while monitoring the surface composition an

In order to perform gas impurity analysis on operating lamps, a mass spectrometer based in situ fracture stage has been built (Boroczki et al 2006 Meas. Sci. Technol. 17 79). The main problem of the elevated temperature measurements is the rapid cond

Polycrystalline diamond layers are mostly used in various fields of industrial application. Mechanical tension is generated due to the different heat expansion coefficients of the substrate and the layer, which leads to fracturing in some cases. In t

Recently, metal-halide lamps were also used as automotive light sources because of their major advantages over tungsten halogen lamps (longer lifetime, improved efficacy). However, the lifetime of the lamps is strongly deteriorated by impurities pres

A new concept for time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry is presented. Currently, TOF instruments use pulsed ion introduction with a 10 ns or so pulse width, followed by a waiting period roughly 100 μs. Accordingly, the sample is under excitation in
