Human lung-resident MAIT cells are distinct from CD8+ T cells. They are polycytotoxic, secrete the directly antimicrobial molecule IL-26, express genes associated with persistence, and selectively express interferon-γ- and IL-12- receptors.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains a leading cause of pediatric morbidity and mortality. Young children are at high risk of TB following Mtb exposure, and this vulnerability is secondary to insufficient host immuni

Abstract Infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, remains a global health concern. Both classically and non-classically restricted cytotoxic CD8+ T cells are important to the control of Mtb infection. W

Mucosal-associated Invariant T (MAIT) cells are an innate-like T cell subset that recognize a broad array of microbial pathogens, including respiratory pathogens. Here we investigate the transcriptional profile of MAIT cells localized to the human lu

T cells from young children may be limited in capacity to mount pro-inflammatory responses to intracellular pathogens, thus contributing to vulnerability to TB disease. We compared CD4+ and CD8+ T cell cytokine production in response to mycobacterial

Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are key players in the immune response against microbial infection. The MAIT T-cell receptor (TCR) recognizes a diverse array of microbial ligands, and recent reports have highlighted the variability in the
