A polymorph of the compound Li3SiNO2 has been synthesized via high temperature solid-state synthesis. The formation of the polymorphs, which show different luminescence properties when doped with Eu(ii), can be controlled very selectively.

Obtained by a high temperature solid-state synthesis, the compound Li3SiNO2:Eu2+ was characterized via SCXRD, PXRD, and luminescence spectroscopy. This revealed a new structure type and interesting luminescence properties.
