Summary An embedded model predictive controller (eMPC) based on the linear MPC module in Statoil Estimation and Prediction Tool for Identification and Control has been developed, and it is intended to facilitate the MPC application on embedded hardwa

Gradient-based optimization may not be suited if the objective and constraint functions in a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) optimization problem are not differentiable. Some well-known derivative-free optimization (DFO)-algorithms are inve

Summary In this paper, we present a simple nonlinear dynamic model that is shown to capture the essential dynamics of the casing-heading instability in gas lift wells despite the complex nature of two-phase flow. Using the model, stability maps are g

The Tordis subsea separator station is the first commercial processing plant in the world that is located subsea. The station will be installed 200 m below sea level, and will be remotely operated from the Statoil operated Gullfaks C platform, which

Summary While casing-heading instability in single gas lift wells has at- tracted a lot of attention, gas-distribution instability in dual gas lift wells has not. In this paper, we present a simple, nonlinear dy- namic model that is shown to capture

This paper treats stabilization of multiphase flow in a gas lifted oil well. Two different controllers are investigated, PI control using the estimated downhole pressure in the well, and nonlinear model based control of the total mass in the system.

Oil wells with an oscillating production rate have a lower production compared to oil wells producing at a constant rate. This study looks at instability caused by the casing-heading phenomenon. Control is applied to achieve stable production rate. T
