The development in time of the transmission through57Fe of a broad Lorenztian radiation is calculated numerically. Examples are given forθ=0 andπ/2, for the magnetic hyperfine case, and forθ=π/2 for pure quadrupole splitting.

A discussion is given of the time-behavior of recoil-free γ-radiation passing through a resonant medium. The classical dispersion theory of Hamermesh is extended to account for different linewidths in source or absorber so that a synchrotron-radiati

Recoil-free ..gamma.. rays from the decay of /sup 57/Co are frequency modulated by vibrating the source with a piezoelectric crystal and one of the lines of the resulting multiplet emission spectrum is absorbed. The remaining radiation displays a tim

Mossbauer radiation from a copper foil doped with57Co is resonantly absorbed in a stationary Be∶57Fe absorber. Experiments were performed with the source immersed in liquid He at 4.2K, He gas from 4.2 to 78 K, and in liquid HeII to 2 K. Radio-frequ

The connection between internal conversion of a nuclear transition and EXAFS is pointed out. A prediction is made of sizable variations of lifetimes of nuclear states depending on the surrounding material environment, provided that the transition ene

The M\"ossbauer effect in ${\mathrm{Xe}}^{129}$ and ${\mathrm{Xe}}^{131}$ contained in Xe${\mathrm{F}}_{4}$ has been used to measure the ratio of electric quadrupole moments of the lowest ${\frac{3}{2}}^{+}$ states in the two isotopes. This is the gr

The M\"ossbauer effect of ${\mathrm{Fe}}^{57}$ in a single crystal of cobalt has been observed. The quadrupole coupling ${e}^{2}\mathrm{Qq}$ was measured to be -0.064 mm/sec, and the hyperfine field was found to be isotropic and equal to -316.6\ifmmo
