3,4-Dichloro-1-bromo-cyclobut-1-ene and diironenneacarbonyl do not form the expected bromocyclobutadiene-irontricarbonyl. Instead, two complex molecules are connected to bis (cyclobutadienyl-irontricarbonyl) by elimination of the bromine atoms.

The electronic interaction between complex bonded cyclobutadiene and the phenyl ring is analyzed by 13C- and 1H-NMR-spectra. The cyclobutadiene-irontricarbonyl acts electron donating via the π-system and electron accepting via the σ-core.
