Metal–ligand bonds in M(cAACDip)2 (M = Be, Mg) are best described with dative bonds between neutral ligands L⇄M⇄L but not with charged species L(−1)→E(+2)←L(−1) as previously stated. The oxidation state of the metals is zero but not +2.

A low-valent Ga(i) complex, [Ga@Bi10(NbMes)2]3−, with a linear Nb–Ga–Nb fragment was synthesized by the reaction of K5Ga2Bi4 with NbMes2. This unusual Zintl cluster represents the first compound with Nb–Ga and Nb–Bi bonds.
