The formation of anthracene derivatives and substituted diphenylmethanes from o-bromobenzyl bromide

o-Bromobenzyl bromide was converted to 1-(1-chloro-1-alkyl/aryl) methyldiphenylmethanes which were then treated with aluminium chloride under anhydrous conditions when mixtures of anthracene derivatives and substituted diphenylmethanes were obtained.
