Self-ordering colloidal systems are being recognized as possible candidates for optical photonic crystals. Such structures exhibit three-dimensional periodicity in refractive index, and possess lattice dimensions comparable to optical wavelengths. Re

We present an analytical model based on scalar-wave approximation to study the stop bands of face-centered-cubic photonic crystals with dielectric spheres at lattice sites. An analytical expression is obtained for the normalized stop band widths alon

We have conducted a spectroscopic investigation of the enhancement of nonlinear optical effects around a defect in a one-dimensional photonic crystal. Degenerate four-wave mixing studies were performed on a dielectric stack that contained a polymer t

The microstatistics of laser speckle has been investigated under varying incident polarization angle θ. The intensity at each point in a speckle pattern varies sinusoidally with θ and can be described completely by three parameters: amplitude, base

Photon transport in strongly scattering random media has been examined by two experimental methods in order to search for departures from diffusive transport and the approach to strong photon localization. The first method measures the evolution in t
