We investigate the effect of broken inversion symmetry on the generation and control of ultrafast currents in a transparent dielectric (SiO _2 ) by strong femtosecond optical laser pulses. Ab initio simulations based on time-dependent density functio

We theoretically investigate the dependence of the enhancement of optical near-fields at nanometric tips on the shape, size, and material of the tip. We confirm the strong dependence of the field enhancement factor on the radius of curvature. In addi

Low-bias etching of Si using SF 6 plasma is a valuable tool in the manufacturing of semiconductor and MEMS devices. This kind of etching has strong isotropic tendencies, since the low voltage bias does not provide enough vertical acceleration and kin

The realization of quantum networks and quantum computers relies on the scalable generation of entanglement, for which spin-photon interfaces are strong candidates. Current proposals to produce entangled-photon states with such platforms place string

We demonstrate that multi-photon photoemission including above-threshold multiphoton orders from a nanotip can be coherently controlled with the optical phase between two light fields. By focusing 74 fs drive pulses at 1560 nm and their second harmon

High-order-harmonic generation by a highly nonlinear interaction of infrared laser fields with matter allows for the generation of attosecond pulses in the XUV spectral regime. This process, well established for atoms, has been recently extended to t

Synopsis We demonstrate coherently controlled two-color above-threshold photoemission from a single crystal tungsten nanotip. With optimized fundamental and second harmonic intensities near perfect phase contrast can be obtained.
