Four clinical isolates of gram-positive strict anaerobic cocci were isolated from four different human mixed anaerobic infections. The taxonomical status of the four strains could not be established using standard identification techniques. The bioch

Gram-positive anaerobic cocci (GPAC) are part of the commensal microbiota of humans and are a phylogenetically heterogeneous group of organisms. To evaluate the suitability of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectromet

The genus Peptostreptococcus (Kluyver & van Niel 1936) as presently constituted is phylogenetically and phenotypically incoherent; biochemical, chemical and molecular data indicate that the genus comprises a collection of very heterogeneous species.

We describe three new species of the genus Peptostreptococcus which were isolated from human specimens and were tentatively identified as Peptostreptococcus prevotii. These three organisms were not homologous with previously described type strains of

Although more than 80% of infected and 70% of noninfected leg ulcers have been shown to harbor anaerobic organisms, their role in mediating impaired wound healing in the skin is frequently overlooked. There is now increasing evidence that the gram-po
