The bicyclic hydroxylamine hemiketal ring system found in antitumour antibiotic FR900482 can be produced via an oxidative ring expansion of the 9a-hydroxy-2,3,9,9a-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]indole ring system by reaction with Davis' reagent.
