A general geometric condition, involving group velocities, for large bandwidth parametric amplification with all types of phase-matching and in certain wavelength ranges is derived. This condition has been exploited to produce visible widely tunable

It is demonstrated that the Hamiltonian responsible for the formation of Fermi-resonant two-vibron bound states can be uncoupled, leading to a description of the bound states analogous to that of pure molecular vibrations. In the case of relaxation o

The vibrational relaxation times of the ν 2 fundamental mode and the {2ν 2 + ν 1 } = [Ω − + Ω + ] Fermi doublet of the ClO the rubidium perchlorate crystal are investigated as a function of temperature between 7 and 300 K using high repetition

Direct observation of temporally varying molecular geometries during a chemical reaction is very challenging. Ultrafast (pico- and femtosecond) laser spectroscopy allows the detection of various short living species and the determination of their lif

It is shown that time-resolved nonlinear optical techniques can be extended to the selective study of the dynamics of vibrational overtones and two-phonon states in condensed media. In a primary application the first experimental demonstration of coh

The de-excitation of the vibrational population of small molecules in the liquid state is considered. Experimental techniques applicable to the measurement of relaxation times in dense phases are first described. Theoretical approaches are subsequent

The vibrational relaxation times of the carbon-13 isotopic satellites, I − and I + , of the two-phonon bound states Ω − and Ω + in the carbon dioxide crystal are measured below 130 K using a time-resolved frequency-selective picosecond CARS sys

The bi-excitonic luminescence of a single crystal of cuCl at 4.2 K excited in bulk by a single picosecond ruby laser pulse is described. A bi-exciton lifetime of (3 ± 1) ns is reported.
