The absolute emission rate of the air afterglow reaction has been referenced to the O/sub 2/(/sup 1/..delta..) emission at 1270 nm. The emission rate constant at 1270 nm was determined to be 6.2 (/plus minus/ 1.2) /times/ 10/sup /minus/20/ molecules/
