We report a live birth from a heavily fragmented embryo which continued cleavage to a fully expanded blastocyst. A 32-year-old patient underwent 2 IVF cycles without achieving pregnancy. In the first cycle, 2 embryos with fragmentation were transferr

The authors present the development of a novel assessment tool, the Biology Card Sorting Task, designed to probe how individuals organize their conceptual knowledge of biology. Results suggest that the task is robust in distinguishing populations of

A kinetic study of the first step in the reaction of phenol and formaldehyde, the formation of ortho- and para-hydroxymethylphenol, is described. It is found that when using NaOH or KOH as a catalyst under weakly alkaline conditions (pH = 8.5-10.5) a

The reaction between propadiene and formaldehyde in aqueous sulfuric acid solution was investigated. When an excess of formaldehyde is present, it reacts with propadiene in a molecular ratio of 8: 1, yielding the 2,4,10,12,15-pentaoxadispiro[5.1.5.3]

4-Hydroxy-5-methyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one was prepared from aldopentoses and secondary amine salts. A proposed mechanism for the reaction could be verified experimentally and led to reaction conditions giving an optimum yield.

In contrast to the addition of nitrosyl chloride to olefins, yielding chloronitroso addition products, the reaction of propadiene and nitrosyl chloride leads to the formation of 1,3-dichloroacetone. The reaction sequence involved is discussed.

A comprehensive survey is given of the possibilities created for the analysis of phenol formaldehyde (PF) condensates by the development of paper chromatography, in particular through the application of benzeneacetic acid-water as an eluent. A method

4-Hydroxy-5-methyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-3-one (I) is prepared in reasonable yield by β-elimination of phosphoric acid from D-ribose 5-phosphate. The reaction mechanism is discussed and supported by tracer experiments.
