When crystals of Cs2CdCl4 (K2NiF4-type structure) are doped with Cr3+ a number of different impurity centres are formed which are readily distinguishable by EPR spectroscopy. The doped crystals contain both compensated and uncompensated Cr3+ centres.

The luminescence spectra of RbMnCl3, Rb2MnCl4 and CsMnBr3 crystals doped with Cr2+ exhibit a feature at approximately 650 nm which must be assigned to an impurity emission. Time-resolved studies as well as the excitation spectra indicate that the imp
