Between 1977 and 1980 55 in-patients were treated for oesophageal carcinoma. Tumour stage and general state permitted curatively aimed treatment in only 19 patients. Combined pre-irradiation and operation were the treatment of choice in these cases.

Between 1978 and 1983 fifty-two abdominal abscesses in 44 patients were drained percutaneously. 79% of the abscesses occurred as postoperative complications. The overall success rate was 60%, whereas only 42% of left subphrenic abscesses were cured.
