Abstract The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART, NASA) spacecraft revealed that the primary of the (65803) Didymos near-Earth asteroid (NEA) binary system is not exactly the expected spinning top shape observed for other km-size asteroids. Ground

Morphological mapping is a fundamental step in studying the processes that shaped an asteroid surface. However, it is challenging and often requires multiple independent assessments by trained experts. Here we present fast methods to detect and chara

Although Trojan asteroids have been known for decades in other Solar System planets, only one Earth Trojan asteroid was detected. Here, the authors show that recently discovered 2020 XL5 is the second transient Earth Trojan asteroid.

IntroductionWhen talking about Trojan asteroids -- bodies orbiting around the L4 or L5 Lagrangian points of a Sun-planet system -- it is inevitable to refer to Jupiter. This giant planet has, by far, the largest reservoir of Trojan asteroids with tho

Any early or late dynamical instability in the outer Solar system should have left their footprint on the trans-Neptunian object (TNO) populations. Here, we study the collisional and dynamical evolution of such populations numerically by an updated v

The processes leading to the formation of planetary systems leave behind a significant mass of small bodies - up to 35 Earth masses depending on the model [1] - orbiting at large heliocentric distance, and observed around 20% of Sun-like stars [2]. I

Binary asteroids are of special importance in planetary science as they provide direct measurements of the body's bulk mass and density. The main way to discover these systems is by detecting their mutual events in the lightcurves. There are almost 4
