We have transmitted 1.5 Tbit/s over a deployed line of 4000 km of NZDSF using only C-band EDFAs with 25 GHz spacing and NRZ modulation format. The average performance obtained correspond to a 4.8 dB margin for a system designed with Enhanced 7% redun

We report the first demonstration of 340 Gb/s, 50 GHz DWDM straight-line transmission over 6380 km with performance fully consistent with transatlantic plant installation.

Polarization scrambling of the input signal in a long-haul erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) system is studied both experimentally and theoretically. Demonstration of an optimal polarization scrambler is achieved ensuring complete suppression of th

Summary form only given. We have demonstrated the feasibility of high performance nonlinear but nonsoliton transmission in the normal dispersion regime. This kind of nonlinear nonsoliton transmission can be an alternative way to conventional or solit

A method to evaluate the transmission performance margins of WDM systems, based on multiplex pre-emphasis optimisation, has been experimentally validated. We propose a method of pre-emphasis adjustment based on transmission performance measurement th

In conclusion, after optimization of the repeater output power, no degradation in case of channel failure was observed in a 6000-km 8 X 2.5 Gbit/s WDM transmission. The SNR degradation induced by cable loss increase and pump failures on a 4 X 2.5 Gbi

Gain equalisation with a short period fiber grating per amplifier is successfully demonstrated on a 8/spl times/2.5 Gbit/s WDM transmission including 80 repeaters. The possible influence of the coherent Rayleigh noise is investigated for various repe

Eight 2.5 Gbit/s NRZ data channels have been transmitted error free over a 6000 km straight line test-bed with a 75 km amplifier spacing. A wavelength add/drop function has been inserted in the link. Experimental results and calculations are compared

A trial of a 1.3 μm, 340 Mbit/s submarine optical repeater was conducted in the laboratory. Stable performance for the repeater was confirmed and a bit error rate (BER) better than 10‾ 9 was achieved with 81 km of single-mode optical fibre.
