Lung cancer treatment presents a greater treatment planning and treatment delivery challenge in proton beam therapy compared to conventional photon therapy due to the proton beam's energy deposition sensitivity to the breathing-induced dynamic tissue

We demonstrate that it is possible to simultaneously optimize multiple cryoprobe placements and their thermal protocol for one freeze-thaw cycle. A numerical optimization algorithm is used and three different forms of objective function are examined

The applicability of the Spencer-Attix cavity equation in determining absorbed doses in water using solid state detectors irradiated by megavoltage electron beams have been examined. The calculations were performed using the EGSnrc Monte Carlo code.

The 'monoenergetic' electron loss model was derived in a previous work to account for pathlength straggling in the Fermi-Eyges pencil beam problem. In this paper, we extend this model to account for energy-loss straggling and secondary knock-on elect

Advances in the technology of cryomachines in the last 10 years have led to the development of both liquid nitrogen and argon-based Joule-Thompson cryomachines. Theoretical and practical evaluation of the CMS Accuprobe and the ENDOcare CRYOcare was p

A restricted angular scattering model for electron penetration in dense media is presented. In the model, the Fermi-Eyges transport equation is modified through the addition of an extra term which may be interpreted as representing an apparent force

Fermi-Eyges small-angle multiple scattering theory has excellent predictive power in air for magnetically scanned therapeutic electron beams. Modelling such beams by a collimated isotropic source of electrons allows the variation of beam output due t

This paper uses a solution to the Fermi electron transport equation for an isotropic point source to characterize the magnetically scanned broad electron beams from the Sagittaire Therac 40 accelerator in the air space above patients. Thick lead coll
