Dear colleagues, It is a difficult task to keep the balance between a whimsical after-dinner speech and a serious scientific presentation. I have decided to entertain you with, in my opinion, a very exciting aspect of nanophysics. Talking about nanos

The structural and magnetic properties of 3-nm-thick CoPt alloys grown on WSe2(0 0 0 1) at various temperature are investigated. Deposition at room temperature leads to the formation of a chemically disordered fcc CoPt alloy with [1 1 1] orientation.

This paper describes a study of superparamagnetism in iron nanoclusters using low energy μSR, including for the first time zero field measurements, which yield an intrinsic nanocluster superparamagnetic relaxation rate of ν0=67±15 MHz and an energ

The recent development at the Paul Scherrer Institute of a beam of low energy muons allows depth dependent muon spin rotation and relaxation investigations in thin samples, multilayers and near surface regions (low energy μSR, LE-μSR). After a brie

Structural aspects and magnetic properties of ultrathin fcc-Co films epitaxially grown on Cu(100) have been investigated. Insight into the local structure and magnetism has been gained through perturbed γγ-angular correlation spectroscopy (PAC) usi

Direct depth profiling techniques to date have largely lacked the necessary depth resolution to investigate interfacial phenomena of the order of the bulk correlation length (5-10 nm for a wide range of systems). Here we investigate the optimal spati

During the last few decades, a variety of methods has been developed which makes use of polarized positive muons as a microscopic probe of the magnetic properties of condensed matter (muon spin rotation, relaxation, resonance,μSR). Until now, availa

Perturbed gamma gamma -angular correlation (PAC) experiments have been performed to study the occupation of different surface sites by 111In probe atoms at vicinal Pd surfaces with (100) terrace orientation. Within an isochronal annealing sequence In
