The behaviour of nucleon resonances in nuclei excited by electromagnetic and hadronic probes is discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the Δ(1232) isobar propagation which is explained in terms of an interplay of mesonic, nuclear, and Δ dynamics.

The Δ excitations in nuclei induced by pion and photon scattering and by intermediate energy charge exchange reactions are analyzed within the isobar-hole model. The results of the various reactions are compared to each other and their similarities

A review is given of our present knowledge of collective spin-isospin excitations in nuclei. Most of this knowledge comes from intermediate-energy charge-exchange reactions and from inelastic electron- and proton-scattering experiments. The nuclear-s

A new approach is proposed for the investigation of delta (Δ) excitations in nuclei induced by intermediate energy charge exchange reactions. The approach is based on the isobar-hole model which treats the dynamics of the Δ in the nucleus explicitl

The background of 40Ca(p,n)- and 48Ca(p,n)-spectra have been calculated in a microscopic model for an incident proton energy of 160 MeV. The continuous parts of the spectra are reproduced within a factor of 1.3. It is shown that most of the backgroun

Microscopic calculations of the second order imaginary optical potential are presented for neutron and proton scattering from spherical target nuclei using random phase approximation transition densities for intermediate excited states. Both inelasti
