We incorporate thermal effects for injection currents ranging up to 150 mA in order to model the tuning behavior of a two-section, all-active distributed-Bragg-reflector (DBR), ridge-waveguide semiconductor laser utilized for a single-mode operation.

Abstract We investigate media which exhibits epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) behavior while simultaneously sustaining stopped light energy bands which contain multiple points of zero group velocity (ZGV). This allows the merging of state-of-the-art phenomena

Alpha decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei are obtained in the context of barrier penetration theory built with the use of Coulomb and proximity potentials, taking into account the quadrupole deformations of nuclei. It is estimated from a classical

We investigate a tapered, hybrid plasmonic waveguide which has previously been proposed as an optically efficient near-field transducer (NFT), or component thereof, in several devices which aim to exploit nanofocused light. We numerically analyze how

The use of a metallic adhesion layer is known to increase the thermo-mechanical stability of Au thin films against solid-state dewetting, but in turn results in damping of the plasmonic response, reducing their utility in applications such as heat-as

We proposed a new elliptical near-field transducer (NFT) and V-shaped waveguide design, which provides multiple pathways to control and optimise the thermal performance of the optical delivery paths for heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). The pr

Semiconductor lasers that use high-order surface gratings formed with etched slots have simple fabrication. Such gratings however increase loss and have a small free-spectral range that can increase threshold, lower slope efficiency, and limit SMSR.
