Measuring greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater treatment plants is of utmost importance in the context of climate change. However, due to their variability and complexity, it is a particularly challenging task in aerated reactors. The current met

Methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from tropical freshwater ecosystems have been understudied, particularly in terms of their interaction with limnological dynamics, their cycling, and the emission mechanisms of CH4. To help reduce that

Heavy metals are necessary at low concentration for biological activity, but they are often toxic for microorganisms at high concentrations. Amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA was used to investigate changes in the bacterial and microeukary

Abstract Background At lower concentrations copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and nickel (Ni) are trace metals essential for some bacterial enzymes. At higher concentrations they might alter and inhibit microbial functioning in a bioreactor treating wastewater.

Freshwater ecosystems are responsible for an important part of the methane (CH4) emissions which are likely to change with global warming. This study aims to evaluate temperature-induced (from 5 to 20 °C) changes on microbial community structure and

Considerable variability in methane production and emissions has been reported in mangroves, explained by methane inhibition and oxidation. In this study, soil pore waters were collected from mangrove forests located in the Gulf of California (Mexico

Microorganisms in aerobic granules formed in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) remove contaminants, such as xenobiotics or dyes, from wastewater. The granules, however, are not stable over time, decreasing the removal of the pollutant. A better underst
